It was no coincidence that its founder Michael Thonet, a pioneer of high quality and innovative furniture design, chose Bystřice pod Hostýnem, in the Czech Republic to open a bent wood furniture plant in 1861. Through a business merger and further development, today the company is called TON (Továrna Ohýbaného Nábytku) and is run as a Public Limited Company. TON offers a wide range of quality, innovative shapes and legacy products. The famous wood café chair No.14 (designed by Michael Thonet), believed to be the most sold chair in the history of the world, is still in production today using a manual bending technique, the same as when it originally started.
